Not from Scratch Witch

I think a witch is all about the face so you can't do better than to buy a really creepy witch mask - not to mention how much time that saves. We wanted one of our witches to bend over a cauldron so for the base, we used an old non-working floor fan because of the tilt option it gave us. We just removed the top.

Bolt pic - Build a Witch

We cut a piece of 1 x 1 wood to the length we needed and bolted it in place at the angle we wanted.

Attach Head - Build a Witch

We purchased a Styrofoam head to put under the mask and then just jammed it on the end of the "body stick".

This is the support view when we were finished. Note we had to add a chunk of wood (a.k.a. counterbalance) to stop our witch from tipping over but her skirt will cover it nicely.

Bra Mold - Build a Witch

We also used this plastic bra base we had to help shape her body. Not shown is a plastic hanger to give the witch a sturdy support for her shoulders as the bra base was not strong enough.

Hagatha - Build A Witch

Say hello to Hagatha. We shopped at thrift stores for her over-dress and under-skirt. I had an old fox stole and red shawl all ready. The stick is a temporary staff until we can find something cooler. The hands were made from shaping a wire clothes hanger into the shape of hands and then placing gloves over it. [We did not like the hand effect and later replaced these with hands you can purchase.]

Corner Coven - Build a Witch

Hagatha then became part of our Corner Coven in our haunt. Note her new hands and staff. The cauldron (cut off in this picture) is a plastic one purchased from Party City with crumpled newspaper in it to hold the staff in place. An inexpensive color changing light was placed in the cauldron to give the scene an eerie glow.

The center witch, Trina, is a purchased witch and witch on the left, Drucilla, was put together at the last minute with pvc pipes fashioned into a cross and stuck in a bucket of gravel. Drucilla's clothing was also found at thrift stores but we used "creepy cloth" for her shawl.

As you can see, you can use just about anything around your house to build your witch base but spend a little extra on your masks because the mask is the key.
